Just read a news report from channelnewsasia..com saying that Australia and Taiwan have confirmed their third and eleventh H1N1 flu cases respectively, as authorities urged calm and advised against overseas trips. My query is, how many people are actually concern over these issue? I come in contact with people aged 70 to 60, 59 to 45, 44 to 30, 29 to 21 and 20 to 14, each group tells me a different concern, and this H1N1 flu thingy has different impact level on each group too.
The mentioned feedback below might not apply to you, but if you wish to have your comment posted, the comment box is open for your postings.
Group Age 70 to 60
- Direct translation from chinese: "Aiyah, live until so long already, whatever happens happen lor. Nevermind la. As long as my family members(age 59 to 45, 44 to 30, 29 to 21 & 20 to 14) are healthy and ok can already."
Group Age 59 to 45
- Direct transaltion from hokkien: "Aiyo! Scared die people ah, better stay at home from today onwards, can don't go market don't go ah. Go market one shot buy 1 month supply of ration best, so lesser exposure to people."
- To their children if any: "After your school/work don't go out ah, come home straightaway and shower clean clean then eat home cooked food.
Group Age 44 to 30
- "With today's medical advancement, i think we're more or less in a safe environment. We just have to practice good personal hygiene and hope our children are ok during these pandemic times. That would be our greatest comfort.
Group Age 29 to 21
- "This sort of thing cannot be controlled. For e.g sometimes we take really gd care of ourselves and yet still fall sick. So if H1N1 got you, it got you. You can wear mask ranging from N95 to 9595 and still risk being infected."
- "The world is so big with billions of poplutation. What are the possibilities of me being the 1% or 0.5% or 0.1%? Let's enjoy what we are doing and what we can do for now. Isn't it better?"
- "There goes my Aust, Taiwan, Malaysia KL and western countries trip. Certainly don't wanna waste my time being quarantine if i still wanna have an enjoyable trip and make my moneys worth."
Group Age 20 to 14
- "Won't get one la. Got so lucky meh? Life still goes on, except for more troublesome temperature checks in schools."
- "I still go out. Orchard rd, wisma, taka, plaza sing, city hall & party!!! Don't wanna give up my life for some virus which only have a teeny weeny bit of chance to hit me."
Noticed the trend of thoughts from different age group? As people age, they get more and more pessimistic, fearful, and to a point, indifferent. Is it up bringing? Is it change of mentality as they aged? Or is it pressure from media or peers?
I would still go for my KL trip if it hasn't evolve into pandemic level, cause i think i might not be that 1% of the world's population.
If you're down with a flu, would you suspect yourself for H1N1? I wouldn't. What would your views be?
